Meet Kumail

Meet the new Head Squash Professional at Southport Racquet Club - Kumail Mehmood.

Kumail Mehmood is the Director of F.A.S.S.P. Squash. F.A.S.S.P squash will manage and run squash operations at Southport Racquet Club. F.A.S.S.P also manages Junior and Adult squash programs at Sportsplex (Stamford), St Luke's school (New Canaan) and Sportsplex (Bethel).

Kumail is a former Pakistan National Champion(1996 and 1997), and national junior champion (U15,U17,U19) who competed and became a world ranked (top 50) player on the Professional Squash Tour. He is a past winner of the Sindh Open, Bournemouth Open and Montpellier Classic.

He is a nationally recognized coach who works with kids, adult amateurs, and squash touring professionals. Kumail has built and managed active junior squash program including lessons, clinics, leagues, USSRA sanctioned junior ranking tournaments, summer and winter squash camps.

Over the past eight years F.A.S.S.P. kids have successfully represented their school teams, college teams and some have gone to represent team USA at junior and senior levels at international competitions. One junior player from the program has achieved a women’s world ranking of 97 at a young age of 16, and won the British Junior Open squash championship. Another junior won the 2008 US Open. In 2009, 19 F.A.S.S.P Students won trophies at the National Championships.

A big supporter of "City squash" from the Bronx, "Squash Haven" from New Haven and junior squash in general, F.A.S.S.P has run summer and winter squash camps for the past 8 years. The summer squash camps are run by highly experienced staff and feature current top Professionals players like World champion Thierry Lincou of France, Karim Darwish of Egypt, Hisham Ashour from Egypt as guest coaches.

The St. Luke's squash program has been a great success. The Boys Varsity team won the "High School Nationals" in B category, won the "New England Team Championships" in B category and this past season won the inaugural Boys FAA championship. The girls team came third at the "New Englands" in the B category.

In 2006 and 2008 Kumail organized fundraiser exhibition matches against World Squash champions.

In 2007 the "client appreciation night" allowed players a chance to get on court and play some points with World # 5 squash player. In May 2009 F.A.S.S.P presented the PSA/ WISPA “F.A.S.S.P St Luke’s Open.” 62 professional squash players, men and women from 30 different countries competed in a week long tournament.

Every year we organize 4 US Squash sanctioned tournaments at our clubs with almost 150 entrants in each tournament.
